The Grandparent Project provides services to grandparents and other relatives raising children, including families where a parent also lives in the home. The project is sponsored by Calaveras County Behavioral Health and the Calaveras County Office of Education.
Monthly meetings are held in seven locations in Calaveras County: San Andreas/Valley Springs, Murphys/Arnold, Copperopolis/Angels Camp, and West Point. Facilitators lead the meetings and also provide individual consultations. Meetings often include speakers, and are a great place to meet peers and receive helpful resource information and referrals to county agencies and services.
Each group holds eight monthly meetings, beginning in August or September and ending in May with a countywide Ice Cream Social in Angels Camp. The Grandparent Project is now in its tenth year and is focusing on school outreach (from preschool to high school) to identify and contact grandparents serving as parents. The number of these special families continues to increase in our county, state, and nation.
The Grandparent Project is administered by the Calaveras County Office of Education with MHSA funding from Calaveras County Health and Human Services Agency.
