Calaveras County has four school districts and a County Office of Education. There are ten elementary schools (one is K-8), two middle schools, two high schools, and several alternative schools. The total K-12 student population is approximately 5,256.
Calaveras Unified School District is the largest district in the county and serves students from the west side of the county, including San Andreas, Valley Springs, Mokelumne Hill, Mountain Ranch, Rail Road Flat, and West Point.
Mark Twain Union Elementary School District, Vallecito Union School District, and Bret Harte Union High School District serve students on the east side of the county, including Copperopolis, Angels Camp, Vallecito, Murphys, Avery, Arnold, and Dorrington.
The Calaveras County Office of Education operates Calaveras River Academy, and Oakendell Community School, and authorizes Mountain Oaks Charter School.
