Bret Harte high school hosted the career talk on Agriculture, Fire and Foresty Careers last week. Calaveras high school and Mountain Oaks students watched the presentation via a live stream. Student turn out and participation showed promise for sustainable employment in Calaveras County.

Local high school students are getting the inside scoop on current career opportunities in the Mother Lode through this year’s Career Technical Education (CTE) project presentations.

Mrs. Dianne Bennett, a teacher at Calaveras River Academy, a Calaveras County Office of Education school in San Andreas, is one of 114 teachers selected nationwide for a Nation History Day program titled “Legacies of World War I.” nationwide.

Calaveras high school students learn about biomedical science through a program called Project Lead the Way (PLTW).

It was good, old-fashioned summertime fun at White Pines Lake on Aug. 11 as kids and adults alike enjoyed a day of kayaking, paddleboarding and barbecue, hosted by the Calaveras Youth Mentoring Program.

Association of California School Administrators (ACSA) annually honors outstanding administrators and organizations from each region. Honorees from Region 7 included Kathy Griggs, Sherri Reusche, Kassandra Booth and Young's Payless IGA.

The Grandparent Project has set the dates and times for this next year’s meetings. If you are a Grandparent or other relatives raising children, this project helps provide support and resources. Meetings are held in several county locations from Sept. through May. Please contact the group facilitator or program coordinator for more information.
